Scott & Fyfe Wins Future Skills Business Award!

We are delighted to announce that Scott & Fyfe has been named the winner of the Future Skills Business Award at the 2025 Dundee and Angus Chamber (DACC) Awards!

This recognition celebrates our commitment to investing in our team and the local community to create new learning opportunities to develop skills needed for the future.

For over 160 years, Scott & Fyfe has been a leader in technical textile innovation, working with industries around the world to deliver advanced solutions, but we know that our true strength lies in our people.

As an employee-owned company, every team member has a direct stake in our success, driving a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement and shared growth.

Empowering Individuals Through Skills Development

Over the past year, we’ve delivered over 1,000 hours of training across all levels of the business, ensuring that 100% of our workforce has received development support. From modern and graduate apprenticeships to leadership programmes and technical upskilling, we’re building a diverse range of skills to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

One inspiring example is Greig Sturrock, who began his journey as a Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice. Supported by Scott & Fyfe, Greig pursued an HNC in Engineering Systems through day-release learning. After two years of hard work, he is excelling in his new role after being promoted to Mechanical Maintenance Engineer. Greig’s story is just one example of how we are nurturing individuals, allowing them to fulfill their career ambitions and creating clear pathways for progression.

Partnerships and Collaboration

Collaboration is key to supporting future skills development. We work closely with Dundee & Angus College, Dundee University and Fife College, as well as organisations such as CEED, SMAS, NMIS, and SQMC, to ensure our training programmes are forward-thinking and industry-relevant. These partnerships help us embed lean manufacturing, innovation and technical excellence across our operations.

We also collaborate globally with our customers through Customer Learning Journeys, where our teams visit clients’ sites to better understand their needs, products and processes. This direct knowledge exchange allows us to identify opportunities for product improvement and future skills needs.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Our commitment to skills development extends beyond our own team. We actively participate in STEM outreach initiatives, inspiring and engaging with future talent by hosting workshops for young people, such as the Techfest/SMAS/Scott & Fyfe sessions at MSIP, aimed at S1-S3 secondary pupils.

Going beyond STEM, we have also partnered with V&A Dundee and other local organisations to introduce design thinking into industries like adult mental health and child learning services, showing how innovation can create meaningful change.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Winning the Future Skills Business Award is a celebration of our people, our partnerships and our purpose. It recognises the dedication of our team to continuously learn, grow and adapt while sharing that knowledge with our industry and community.

As an employee-owned business, every success is a shared success. This award is a testament to the power of collective ambition and the bright future we’re building together – one where innovation, sustainability and people-powered progress go hand in hand.
