Scott & Fyfe are pleased to announce that they have become a member of the Composites UK trade association.  The decision was simple to make as Composites UK play an integral role in the UK composite industry.

Paul McMullan, Composite Director explains that the decision to join was “due to a desire to play a more active role in shaping the future of composite materials both within the UK and on a more global platform. As a company committed to innovation and pushing the boundaries of composite technology, we felt it important to be connected to the UK trade association for composites so that we can positively influence the strategic direction of research and government support to UK SME’s within the Composite sector.”

The decision ties in with the ambitious plans of Scott & Fyfe to further grow their technical textile business within sectors including Automotive, Mass Transit, Construction, Marine, Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy. Membership also provides an ideal opportunity to network and engage with like-minded and ambitious UK companies.

Dundee's Race for Life, by Cancer Research UK, was held on the 21st of June at CamperdownPark with around 1700 people participating.

Kat (3) (1)

A charity close to many of our hearts, our own Katrina Mackay was brave enough to enter in the 5k along with another 40 ladies, family and friends. Each paid £10 for their pink T-shirt and then continued at an after event to celebrate the life of someone close. Raising more money for this worthwhile charity.

Katrina trained hard in the run up to the event and still managed to get some light reading done whilst on the treadmill. Not many of us have the coordination for that!

Katrina completed the race, raising £113 in less than 2 weeks. We are all proud of her, well done Kat!

We are pleased to announce our participation at the Vision London exhibition and conference, 2nd - 3rd June at Olympia London, where we will specifically be promoting our Polymat Hi-Flow Max product for composite façade systems.

Vision London is specifically for architects, specifiers, end users and construction sector suppliers and the aim of the event is to bring these communities together to discuss, debate and showcase the latest innovations and developments for the built environment. Vision will focus on innovative building products, materials and technology, as well as new and inventive solutions that facilitate better building design.

Composite façade systems are gaining significant traction in the façade market due to their unique benefits such as increased design freedom, ability to create 3D multi-curved surfaces, increased life span, improved weather performance and compliance with building regulations such as fire performance and thermal  / acoustic insulation. This was exemplified recently through two high profile projects in the Netherlands that utilised such composite façade solutions – the Hilton Hotel at Schipol airport and the Stadskantoor Utrecht (SKU) office building.

We welcome anyone interested to visit us at Vision, where we will be exhibiting as part of the New Product Zone or alternatively, get in touch with us here.

The use of composites in construction is an exciting area and one that is beginning to grow as architects increase their understanding of the many advantages that composite materials have to offer. We are proud to offer innovative, technical textile and composite solutions that allow architects the freedom to construct buildings without the constraints of traditional construction materials such as shape, structure, durability and colour.

In partnership with our distributors in the Benelux Region, MC Technics, we recently provided the composite reinforcement materials used in two high profile construction projects. The Hilton Schiphol at Amsterdam airport and the Stadskantoor Building (SKU) in Utrecht.

The Hilton Schiphol building consists of 10,000m2 of interlocking composite panels. These shaped and coloured panels make up the façade of the building and were manufactured using 50,000 Kg of Scott & Fyfe’s Polymat Hi Flow Max material under the vacuum infusion process. The building, still under construction is already becoming established as a key landmark in the area. The video below shows the current progress of the building.

The StadskantoorUtrechtBuilding is the largest project ever to have been completed in the Benelux region using composite materials. It consumed around 90,000 Kg of our Polymat Hi Flow Max material to complete the façade, which consists of 20,000m2 of panels, manufactured under the vacuum infusion process.

These projects are fantastic examples of the use of composite materials and due to the success of these and the opportunities they have opened up we have made the decision to further explore this market and will exhibit at the Vision Exhibition in London (June) as a part of the New Innovation Zone.
